I can remember bare foot walks to my mailbox and smoke wrapping around the house stimulating my sense of smell with sizzling steak on the grill. Remind me. How long ago was that? Sprawling out in the grass staring up at the sky letting the breeze relax my body instead of being confined to a recliner and a television set. Seeing waves in the open water like line after line of soldiers marching for the shoreline. So many wonderful things reference a place in the shade. Have you ever noticed shade doesn't even exist in the winter season? Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy winter and all its glory. Experiencing over a foot of snow and night after night of double digit below zero temperatures in a matter of weeks forces your mind to think of better times. When you're cold think of something warm. Freeze me no more.

Blankets upon blankets of snow cover our once lush green ground. Record breaking sub zero temperatures seem to freeze our very souls. Thoughts of wonder enter your mind as of why I live in such a place. There is beauty in everything, but in order to see it you must understand what you're seeing. The white desert that once was crop fields and trees that appear to be frosted surround you. The moon luminates the night like the midnight sun. Even winter, the fourth season. Everything has beauty, and yet, is only temporary.
